FAQs

What is Performance Psychiatry, and how does it differ from traditional psychiatric services?

Performance Psychiatry focuses on enhancing mental and physical performance beyond traditional mental health care. At RYZE, we combine advanced psychiatric techniques, psychoanalytic principles, and physiological knowledge to help individuals achieve their highest potential. Unlike traditional services that often focus solely on treating symptoms, we cultivate excellence by addressing the complex interplay between mind, body, and performance.

Who can benefit from RYZE’s services?

Our services are designed for high achievers across various fields, including elite athletes, corporate executives, professionals in high-pressure environments, and individuals seeking to optimize their performance and well-being. We also work with organizations looking to enhance team dynamics and overall productivity.

Do I need to have a clinical illness to benefit from RYZE’s services?

No, you don’t need a clinical diagnosis to benefit from our services. While we do treat mental health conditions, our approach is equally valuable for individuals looking to optimize their performance, enhance their capabilities, or navigate challenging life transitions.

How does RYZE’s cash-based model work, and why don’t you accept insurance?

Our cash-based model allows us to focus entirely on your needs without the constraints imposed by insurance companies. This means we can offer longer sessions, more flexible treatment plans, and innovative approaches that may not be covered by traditional insurance. By eliminating insurance-related administrative work, we can dedicate more time and resources to your care.

How does RYZE integrate nutritional psychiatry into performance enhancement?

We recognize the profound impact of nutrition on mental health and performance. Our approach includes nutritional assessments, personalized dietary recommendations, and when appropriate, nutrient therapy. These strategies complement our psychiatric and physiological interventions, promoting overall mental and physical well-being.

Can organizations benefit from RYZE’s services?

Absolutely. We offer organizational psychoanalysis, team dynamics evaluation, and consulting services. These interventions can improve interpersonal relationships, enhance team cohesion, optimize performance, and create a high-performance culture within your organization.

What’s the difference between a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist, Therapist, Coach, or Counselor?

As a psychiatrist, I am a medical doctor with a level of education and training that far surpasses other mental health professionals. This distinction is crucial:

  • Medical Education: Psychiatrists complete accredited medical school curriculum (typically 4 years) designed to educate physicians to become capable of any medical specialty, gaining in-depth knowledge of human biology, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology. This medical foundation is absent in the training of psychologists, therapists, coaches, or counselors.
  • Residency: Following medical school, psychiatrists undergo a rigorous 4-year residency specialized in psychiatric care. This intensive, hands-on training integrates medical knowledge with mental health expertise.
  • Comprehensive Understanding: Our medical background allows us to understand the complex interplay between physical health and mental performance – a perspective unique to psychiatrists.
  • Intervention Capabilities: As medical doctors, psychiatrists can provide a full spectrum of interventions, including psychotherapy, medication management, and other medical treatments when necessary.
  • Regulation and Certification: Psychiatrists are held to the stringent standards of the medical profession. We must pass rigorous board certification exams and maintain ongoing medical education, as well as maintain numerous state and federal licensures, ensuring the highest level of expertise and ethical practice.

Can you prescribe medication if needed, and what is your approach to medication management?

Yes, as a board-certified psychiatrist, I can prescribe medication when appropriate. However, our approach at RYZE is not medication-centric. We view medication as one tool among many and only recommend it when we believe it will significantly benefit your overall treatment plan and goals. Medications significantly impact physiology within and outside of the brain, and so the decision to initiate or alter medications must be discussed thoroughly and mutually agreed upon.

What should I expect during my first appointment?

Your first appointment will be a comprehensive assessment where we discuss your goals, challenges, and relevant history. We’ll explore various aspects of your life and performance to develop a thorough understanding of your needs. This session also allows you to ask questions and get a feel for our approach to ensure it aligns with your expectations.

How often will I need to schedule appointments, and what is the typical duration of treatment?

The frequency of appointments and duration of treatment vary based on individual needs and goals. Some clients benefit from weekly sessions, while others may need less frequent check-ins. We’ll work together to determine the most effective schedule for you. There’s no set duration for treatment – our goal is to help you achieve and maintain your desired level of performance and well-being.

Do you offer remote or telehealth services?

Yes, we offer telehealth services for clients who prefer remote sessions or are unable to attend in-person appointments. However, most interventions have significantly higher efficacy with in-person visits, which we can discuss based on your specific needs and treatment plan.
